The DuVander Family is leading our CAC youth in making a special Advent Calendar with all of our youth's ideas and an invitation to the community to engage with their creation through Advent. Thank you, too, for the treats!

Third Sunday in Advent:
Joy in the Deep Blue Night

In our polling about favorite activities we heard that making paper chains was top on the list of fun activities. Today we are creating paper stars and paper chains to decorate the sanctuary together during kid-centering Sunday the following week.

Our story was from Matthew 25:1-12. The theme in S & L was "Being Ready".

A beautiful day— we went outside the main door and created a chalk compass and made a spiral labyrinth, based on our experience at Camp Cedar Ridge retreat. We walked and ran the labyrinth, 'Getting Ready'."

LAST SUNDAY:

It was our first “Youth & Friends” Service! 

We listened to what our youth wanted for the first of three youth-centered services.

We started the day early with Hot Cocoa. Our theme continued with “Encounter.” Adults and youth were all together— singing, playing, making a community art project, sharing a prayer and a blessing. Future Youth & Friends are November 19th and December 17th.

THIS SUNDAY:

“Encountering Other”

What could this mean to us?

Our Modern Sacred Text is "Bees Were Better.” A good day to notice bees in our garden and depending if it's raining we could get some of our Leaven garlic in the ground.

We can also share our last watermelon that CAC started from seed in February and the whole congregation helped transplant in the spring. (Extra seedlings went to NAYA Community Garden, Eloheh Farm and Vernon School Garden).

We'll start with our Rose & Thorn check in. Our youth in Children’s Accompaniment Circle are then invited to join as the Seat of Our Pants Players in acting out today's Ancient Sacred text (with costumes!) There will be an option to act out Exodus 1:8-2:10 for the congregation as their final Lectio Divina reading!

What is staying the same:

  • Anyone seeking to attend the service on Zoom will be able to participate in prayers (via chat) and communion.

What is changing:

  • There will no longer be slides guiding participants through prayers, readings and songs, but a PDF of the bulletin will be shared via Zoom chat. If you’d like a PDF emailed to you before Sunday for printing at home, email alisfingers@gmail.com.

  • Zoom chat, breakout rooms and group discussions will no longer be facilitated by staff or volunteers.
