2024 Statewide Assembly
A Place to Call Home

Home.
It’s where we gather to rest, to dream, to nourish ourselves,
to care for one another.

Turning cutting through red tape into red ribbon cuttings at new affordable housing projects...

Water from the four corners of our state coming together in a mighty river...

Indigenous families reclaiming stolen land for health, education, and housing...

Eastern Oregonians resisting water theft by for-profit resort developers...

Youth fighting to save community spaces that give BIPOC and Spanish-speaking young people places of belonging...
Regional religious institutional leaders proclaiming a resounding 'Yes!' to devoting their energy to housing, landback, and climate resilience...

The stories shared last night at the Statewide Assembly were filled with power, and over and over spoke to the truth that while the world may not be as it ought to be, we can make it a place for everyone to call home, if we do it together.

I can't wait for what's next as we gather more than 1000 people across Oregon into house meetings to take action this season.

Will you join us?

If you want to attend a house meeting (or host one!) in a home near you, click the link below and you'll be a part of the great river of action we're kicking off.

I feel thankful.
I feel hope.
I feel power.
And it's because of all of you.

Thank you for committing to changing our communities so all have a place to call home.  See the photos below for some of the key moments we shared last night!

In solidarity,
Jules
Director, Leaven Community Land & Housing Coalition

Thank you for making sure that everyone - without exception - has a place to call home!

Portland needs affordable housing. Churches have unused land. It’s a match made in heaven.

The Sacred Organizing House brings together, under one roof, teams of people of faith & courageous love committed to building a multifaith, multiracial, multigenerational movement for justice in Oregon. United by the shared practices of Sacred Organizing, we believe that by working together, we can move toward a horizon of liberation, including racial equity, housing justice, climate resilience, and youth leadership.

We’re still under construction, but excited to share this emerging blueprint for building & exercising our collective power!

Each Room (e.g. Reckoning with Racism, Youth, etc.) has a unique focus and base of leaders, and is led by its own staff and strategy team. The Commons brings together staff and leaders from multiple Rooms for shared learning, discerning, and planning. And sometimes, our whole House may decide to engage in a shared campaign or action – that’s our superpower!

Most Rooms host their own Cohorts, where teams of leaders from multiple faith-based and community groups commit to learning and organizing together for a 9-month season. Teams are matched with Companions who provide support and guidance.

For the 2023-2024 Season, the following Cohorts will meet from October through June:

  • Land & Housing - first Thursdays

  • Reckoning with Racism - third Tuesdays

  • Climate Resilience - third Tuesdays

No matter which Room or Cohort you join, you become part of a powerful community of leaders committed to organizing in a shared Movement Home, towards repair, resilience and liberation for our people and planet!

2023 Multi-County Community Assembly

Thank you for engaging in this work together through relationships that are building power for Housing and Wholeness for All in Oregon.

La Casa Comun

Building Power with Neighbors
L to R: Blanca & Jazmin

In the Cully Neighborhood of Northeast Portland at a mobile home park called El Rancho, residents are building power together to assert their rights as tenants. Jazmin Velez of La Casa Común (a participating community in the Multnomah County Leaven Land & Housing Cohort), is helping to facilitate this tenant-led energy for change using the Sacred Organizing practices learned in the cohort.

Prior to October 2021, like many residences, each of the families living at El Rancho had their garbage collected once a week by a garbage truck. In October, however, the truck stopped coming. For a while, there was no pickup at all. The trash accumulated and the owner of El Rancho said the responsibility fell on the residents to solve the problem. READ MORE. HERE is the update
